But no one seems to know
What it is that makes him go
Then the lights begin to flicker
And the sound is getting dim
The voice begins to falter
And the crowds are getting thin
But he never seems to notice
He's just got to find
Another place to play
Anyway
Got to play
Anyway
Got to play

Luciano Zadro’s Take on Victor Young’s "Stella by Starlight"
August 23, 2008Maybe I’m going out of my mind, but I think Victor Young’s song “Stella by Starlight” was about Olympic sprinter Stella Walsh, who dominated the scene (limelight, starlight, not too bright, covert) in the 1930s and 1940s. Walsh died of a stray bullet in 1980, and when autopsied, she — or he — was found to have male genitals and both male and female chromosomes.
Well, it’s the Olympic season and the fact that I can’t watch clips of my favorite sport on YouTube really brings me the blues. Anyway, in the spirit of the 2008 Olympics (which has become really greedy), here’s Luciano Zadro’s take on the song “Stella by Starlight.” Is Stella THE “Stella”? Well, if Victor Young was gay, then there’s the connection. Hahaha.
Getting back to Zadro’s version, I’d want to play like that.
