But no one seems to know
What it is that makes him go
Then the lights begin to flicker
And the sound is getting dim
The voice begins to falter
And the crowds are getting thin
But he never seems to notice
He's just got to find
Another place to play
Anyway
Got to play
Anyway
Got to play

Pat Martino and John Scofield: "Sunny" Revisited
July 2, 2008I can’t explain why I always get the urge to watch this video. Let’s face it. This is one of the best live renditions of the tune I’ve ever seen.
By the way, Marvin Gaye, James Brown, Jamiroquai, Del Shannon, Boney M and Greg Howe (not in chronological order) all did their version of this song originally done by Bobby Hebb.
Funny but I used to play this song but in a much slower tempo because I found it difficult to play fast and at that point in time, I’ve never heard Pat Martino’s version, which my band wanted to play then. It was Del Shannon’s version that I was familiar with. Hmm … maybe I can play it up to tempo by now. Anyway, enough of my quixotic excursions.
Back to Pat and John.
