Somethin' keeps him movin'
But no one seems to know
What it is that makes him go

Then the lights begin to flicker
And the sound is getting dim
The voice begins to falter
And the crowds are getting thin
But he never seems to notice
He's just got to find
Another place to play
Anyway
Got to play
Anyway
Got to play

Simple Guitar Tone Mod

April 11, 2008

My electric guitars are modded in such a way that turning down the volume does not cause a muddied tone.  This works very well with a jazz box, but with solid-body electrics, the tone can get way too treblish for my taste.  Still, the tweak allows you to play rhythm at a lower volume and still cut through when playing live with a band.

I’m not sure how well it will work for you if you back off the volume with a dirt pedal between your guitar and your amp, but in my case, I’m happy with it.

Here’s an interesting site that shows this plus other mods for your guitar such as shock prevention and a quasi-midrange control.
